Software License Storage Guidelines

We track internal software licenses in two places, depending on how the software is activated and used.

  • Asset Manager:
    Licenses for locally installed software that require a file-based or character-based activation key (for example, desktop applications, utilities, or tools installed on one or more workstations) are stored in the Asset Manager. This ensures we can easily access and manage activation keys if software needs to be reinstalled or transferred.
  • IT Glue:
    Licenses for web-based or account-based services that do not use activation keys—such as QuickBooks Online, CodeTwo Email Signatures, or other SaaS products—are stored in a corresponding License flexible asset in IT Glue.
