You can lock the computer or even log out, as long as it is still turned on. It’s OK if users can’t leave the computer on every night. The more often they can leave them on, the more quickly important security- and stability-related updates will be installed. That is why it’s ideal to leave it on every night, but not strictly necessary if it’s not possible.
