How to Send Confidential Info Using the SecureNotes Web App
Use this app to send and receive sensitive info such as passwords, social security numbers, and bank and credit card numbers in an encrypted manner. Never send sensitive info using plain text or via email or SMS unless the email is encrypted.
On the left, under Snippets, click "New snippet."
- For the title
we usually say something descriptive like "John Smith's email
credentials"
- Under content,
try to be specific about what exactly is being provided. Always provide both a
username (assuming there is a username) and the password. For example,
- Include a warning underneath advising the reader of when the note will no longer be available. E.g: Please save this information securely as this note will expire in 3 days.
- Under the
"Shred when" dropdown box, choose "Later."
- Make the shred
time value between 3 and 5 days out depending on the customer's need and the value of the data.
- Click “Create
Snippet” and copy the URL.
- Send the user
the URL, reminding them again that the link will expire soon so they should
save the info securely.
- Log into https://securenotes.app/ .
- On the left, under Requests, click "New snippet."
- Under the Message section, specify what the request is for, who is requesting the info, and from whom we're requesting it.
- Set and make note of the request password. Both you and the recipient will need it.
- In the "password hint" field, it's advisable to remind the customer of how they can access the password. E.g, I'll send the password to open this request via a ticket email.
- Enter the recipient's email address and click send.
- Send the request's password to the recipient!
- You'll receive an email when the recipient has completed the request. You will need the password you created earlier it to open the request.
